Special Events is responsible for programming many significant University-wide events which contribute directly to academic and student life, scholarly recognition and University enhancement. The activities that our office actively plans and participates in offer a consistent means to showcase the University as a thriving, spirited and unified family of faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends and community.
Special Events, working with the Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, presents the University's Celebration of Academic Excellence, a university-wide celebration of scholarly, research, and creative excellence. In addition, Special Events plans the University Commencement ceremony and supports the divisional commencement ceremonies.
Throughout the year, programs like the Distinguished Speakers Series and the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Event, serve the diverse Western New York area by presenting nationally and internationally renowned speakers who can enhance our own sense of culture and tradition by delivering messages of personally discovered courage, convictions and truths.
Additionally, Special Events participates in various "Fests", Fall into UB, Homecoming/Family Weekend, Discover UB and other popular calendar highlights. Special Events continually strives to seek new opportunities that will showcase the University at Buffalo and enhance its presence in our community.
